On October 7th, 2025, the arrest of Katrina McCloud, age 52, was announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Katrina McCloud was charged with second-degree Grand Larceny, and first-degree Offering a False Instrument for Filing. The arrest and charges against Katrina McCloud were a result of an investigation handled by Special Agent Mark Balsam of the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General, Special Agent Joseph LoBiondo of Homeland Security Investigations, Postal Inspector Aileen Santiago of the United States Postal Inspection Service, and Detective Michael McCaffrey of the New York City Police Department.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Katrina McCloud was designated as the Representative Payee for her recently deceased mother. Therefore, the defendant would receive all the Social Security benefits prior to her mother’s death, however Katrina McCloud allegedly failed to properly notify the Social Security Administration about her mother’s passing. This means that allegedly Katrina McCloud continued to receive Social Security benefits and payments monthly, approximately $1,000 a month between 2012 and 2024 totaling to $132,528. Allegedly Katrina McCloud had filed false and inaccurate Representative Payee Reports, still claiming that her mother was alive and detailing how the defendant was supposedly using the money to care for her. This led to the Social Security Administration continuing to provide the monthly payments for over a decade due to the inaccurate information that Katrina McCloud allegedly provided.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Katrina McCloud are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
