On December 17th, 2025, the arrest of Racquel Haughton, age 43, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Racquel Haughton was charged with first-degree Manslaughter, first-degree Assault, and second-degree Assault. The arrest and charges against Racquel Haughton were a result of an investigation handled by Detective Frankie Soler of the Bronx Homicide Task Force.
According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 3 a.m. on September 10th, 2025, Racquel Haughton was sharing a room with 55-year-old Cynthia Vann at NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln. Both individuals were patients receiving treatment. Allegedly Racquel Haughton approached Cynthia Vann while she was sleeping and struck her in the head several times, a scream from the victim alerting medical staff immediately. When staff entered the room in response to the commotion Racquel Haughton was observed to be watching television. Cynthia Vann was placed in a medically induced coma shortly after the attack and was pronounced dead on September 27th, 2025. The death of Cynthia Vann later led to the arrest of Racquel Haughton on October 20th, 2025.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Racquel Haughton are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
