On October 8th, 2025, the arrest of Patricia Lindo-Ahono, age 59, was announced by Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. Patricia Lindo-Ahono was charged with second and third-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Neglect of an Elderly or Disabled Adult, third-degree Tampering with Witnesses, fourth-degree Assault on an Institutionalized Elderly Person, and fourth-degree Falsifying Records. The arrest and charges against Patricia Lindo-Ahono were a result of an investigation handled by Detective Alyssa Singh, Detective Daniel Creighton, Sergeant Justin Callahan, Lieutenant Joseph Jaruszewski, and Deputy Chief Rich King.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, on June 24th, 2023, a physical altercation between Patricia Lindo-Ahono and the victim was recorded at Crystal Lake Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Bayville, New Jersey. The incident took place on the 5th floor of the facility, where the victim was a resident in rehabilitation, where an on-duty nurse captured it on video. The footage allegedly depicts Patricia Lindo-Ahono striking the victim with a broom while the victim’s left hand was bleeding, the defendant allegedly saying “Call [staff member]… before I kill this man,”. The defendant later filed an incident report claiming the event took place at 12:30 p.m. on June 20th, 2023. Patricia Lindo-Ahono alleged in the report that the victim had attempted to attack her with a blue disposable razor, needing to use the broom to swat the object away for her own safety. However the video footage shows the victim empty handed and not in possession of any weapon, staff members that witnessed the incident also stating they didn’t see the victim holding anything during the altercation. The defendant also claimed in the report that the victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation after emergency services were called. Staff members present reported that allegedly Patricia Lindo-Ahono not only didn’t call police, but actively told staff not to call emergency services and that the situation was properly handled. The defendant also claimed to have notified the Department of Health, the office of Long-Term Care Ombudsman, the Office of Public Guardian, and the physician, however all parties confirmed they were not notified.
When the video was published to the public a joint investigation was launched by the Berkley Township Police Department and the OIFP’s Medical Fraud Control Unit. On December 21st, 2024, BTPD officers were talking to the supervisor that was on-duty during the incident. Patricia Lindo-Ahono allegedly then called the supervisor in response to a message about the officers’ activities, asking if she was on speakerphone to which the supervisor responded that she wasn’t. Officers heard the defendant over the phone say, “You don’t remember anything right?”.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Patricia Lindo-Ahono are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
