Story by Ethan

On December 5th, 2025, the arrest of Robert M. Sinnott Jr., former chief of the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company, was announced by Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. Robert M. Sinnott was charged with second-degree Official Misconduct, and four counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact. The arrest and charges against Robert M. Sinnot Jr. were a result of an investigation handled by [Officers/Detectives].

According to the Attorney General’s Office, on several occasions throughout 2022 and 2023 it’s alleged that the defendant would be alone with victims at various locations under the guise of “training”. Robert M. Sinnott Jr. allegedly would take victims to the local firehouse, his former residence in Toms River, New Jersey, and other unspecified locations before physically restraining or handcuffing them in order to commit acts of sexual contact. Allegedly the defendant used the narrative of training for the volunteer fire company, and some victims even reported that in addition to the restriction and harassment Robert M. Sinnott Jr. would take explicit photos of them. The defendant was located and arrested on December 4th, 2025, by the Cape Coral Police SWAT Team and the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OIPA). Court-authorized search warrants were executed at Robert M. Sinnott Jr.’s person, residence, and vehicle, before the defendant was placed in Lee County Jail while waiting for his extradition back to New Jersey

The Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Robert M. Sinnott are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
