On September 12th, 2025, the arrest of Wagner Louis, age 33, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Wagner Louis was charged with first-degree Assault, and second-degree Attempted Murder. The arrest and charges against Wagner Louis were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Police Officers Robert Ronacher and Ryan Vogt of the Midtown South Precinct, and Detective Nicholas Mitchell of the Midtown South Precinct Detective Squad.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, at approximately 3:00 p.m. on August 20th, 2025, Wagner Louis entered a local cafe in Midtown, New York. The defendant headed straight to the establishment’s restroom and was noted to be visibly agitated when discovering it was occupied. Wagner Louis then began to harass a 50-year-old man working at the coffee shop, even attempting to make his way to the back kitchen in order to urinate in the sink. The employee denied him access to the back kitchen, however Wagner Louis was able to enter the store’s bathroom after the previous occupant left. After Wagner Louis exited the bathroom the employee from earlier attempted to escort the defendant out of the establishment. Allegedly Wagner Louis pushed and spit on the employee before taking out a sharp object and slashing the victim in the neck. The defendant fled before entering a nearby car that drove from the scene while bystanders immediately called 911. Wagner Louis was located and arrested approximately four blocks away from the cafe while the victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital. The victim needed two blood transfusions and three layers of stitches that included 19 individual stitches spanning between five and six inches across his neck.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that the charges against Wagner Louis are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
