On March 17th, 2025, the arrest of Amadou Kane, age 22, was announced by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Amadou Kane was charged with first-degree Robbery as a Sexually Motivated Felony, first-degree Attempted Rape, first-degree Attempted Sexual Abuse, Attempted Forcible Touching, and related charges. The arrest and charges against Amadou Kane were a result of an investigation handled by Special Victims Bureau Paralegal Diamond Bertrand, Investigators Christopher Miller, Juan Orejuela, and Dimitrios Papadatos of the New York State Troopers.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on September 12th, 2023, Amadou Kane was riding his bike in Shirley Chisholm State Park and passed by the 51-year old victim jogging on the same path. It’s alleged that after Amadou Kane rode past the victim, he circled back out of her view and grabbed her from behind before throwing her to the ground and punching her repeatedly. During the alleged attack Amadou Kane’s mask was torn off, the victim claiming to recognize the defendant as the same individual who passed by her on a bike earlier during her jog. Allegedly Amadou Kane told the victim that he was carrying a knife and would kill her if she didn’t listen to him, before instructing her to take off her pants as he began to remove his own. However, an unrelated nearby pedestrian on a motorcycle was approaching their location which scared Amadou Kane off, taking the victim’s Apple Watch with him as he fled. New York State Troopers were able to set up surveillance that allegedly caught Amadou Kane using the victim’s Apple Watch to pay for a bottle of water.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Amadou Kane are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
