Bergen County Trio Arrested and Charged Following an Englewood Shooting Investigation

On April 2nd, 2026, the arrest of Joshua M. Khan, Louis B. Placide, and Jalen S. Everett,, ages 19, 20, and 24, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Joshua M. Khan was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/2C:11-3A(1), second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), second-degree Possession of a Weapon N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), and third-degree Hindering Apprehension N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3(A)3. Louis B. Placide was charged with second-degree Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Controlled Dangerous Substance Offense N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1A, second-degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4(A)1, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), two counts of second-degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute Within 500 Feet of a Public Park N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1A, third-degree Possession of a Firearm Within a Public Park N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4.6A(10), third-degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11), fourth-degree Possession of Hollow Nose Ammunition N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3F(1), fourth-degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Drug Paraphernalia N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3, fourth-degree Possession of Marijuana N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10A(3)(B), and a disorderly persons offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2. Jalen S. Everett was charged with two counts of second-degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1A, The third-degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11), fourth-degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Drug Paraphernalia N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3, fourth-degree Possession of Marijuana N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10A(3)(B), and a disorderly persons offense of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2. The arrest and charges against Joshua M. Khan, Louis B. Placide, and Jalen S. Everett were a result of an investigation handled by the Englewood Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Elmwood Police Department

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on April 1st, 2026, shots fired were reported in the area of Park View Housing Apartments. Responding officers from the Englewood Police Department arrived and located a 33-year-old man with critical gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to HMH Hackensack University Medical Center where he remains in a stable condition. A joint investigation by the Englewood Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit led to the identification of Joshua M. Khan, Louis B. Placide, and Jalen S. Everett and their involvement with the shooting. Detectives alleged that Joshua M. Khan was in possession of a .25 caliber handgun which he used to shoot five times in the victim’s direction, striking him twice. Louis B. Placide and Jalen S. Everett were also present at the shooting before being apprehended while fleeing from the scene. During the arrests Louis B. Placide was in possession of a 9mm handgun, a round of hollow-nose ammunition, 14 ounces of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Jalen S. Everett was in possession of 40 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia during his arrest. Detectives also recovered the .25 caliber handgun believed to be used for the shooting, which led to officers from the Elmwood Park Police Department locating and arresting Joshua M. Khan on April 2nd, 2026, in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.


The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Joshua M. Khan, Louis B. Placide, and Jalen S. Everett are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
