Story by Ethan

On August 9th, 2025, the arrest of Imani Williams, age 26, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Imani Williams was charged with second-degree Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Criminally Negligent Homicide, and Reckless Driving. The arrest and charges against Imani Williams were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Detective Gregory Gianacopulos and NYPD Detectives Karl Zarek and Ramon Pina from the Collision Investigation Squad of Highway 1

According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, Imani Willilams was traveling on East 168th Street in a SUV on June 5th, 2022. Allegedly Imani Williams had went into the bus lane to pass another vehicle, then running a red light and colliding into the driver’s side of a sedan being driven by Robert Goodwin, 45, of Queens, New York. Imani Williams was able to escape from the vehicle and immediately fled without checking on the condition of Robert Goodwin or first responders. Robert Goodwin had gotten life threatening injuries and was unfortunately pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital. Detectives determined that Imani Williams’ vehicle was traveling 77 miles-per-hour four seconds before impact. Evidence from the scene revealed that more than one person occupied the SUV Imani Williams was driving, however their identities remain hidden as the only DNA recovered was from Imani Williams on the driver’s side airbag.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Imani Williams are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
