On May 29th, 2026, the arrest of Jamie Doyle, age 40, was announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Jamie Doyle was charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, Strict Liability Homicide, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Driver’s License While Involved in a Motor Vehicle Crash Causing Death. The arrest and charges against Jamie Doyle were a result of an investigation handled by the Toms River Township Police Department

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 8:50 p.m. on January 23rd, 2026, a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries was reported at the intersection of Romana Lane and Route 37 westbound. Responding officers from the Toms River Township Police Department discovered a white Nissan Maxima and a red Chevrolet Trax both sustaining severe damage while resting on the intersection. The driver of the Chevrolet was 76-year-old Ronald Butcher, who sustained life-threatening injuries from the crash. While life-saving attempts were made on the scene, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after the accident. According to officers at the scene Jamie Doyle, who was driving the Nissan, displayed erratic behavior including slurred speech and constricted pupils. The defendant was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey, to be treated for a broken femur and head injuries. Investigation into the incident revealed that Ronald Butcher was traveling southbound on Romana Lane with the right of way while crossing Route 37. At the same time Jamie Doyle was driving westbound on Route 37 when he collided head-on into the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle. The Chevrolet was inflicted with a large intrusion that pierced into the passenger’s side compartment. Nearby witnesses reported seeing the Nissan driving recklessly while ignoring several traffic signs and signals. In addition to discovering that Jamie Doyle was operating the Nissan while his driver’s license was suspended, a court-authorized blood draw also showed traces of Phencyclidine (PCP) and Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in his bloodstream.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jamie Doyle are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
