On January 22nd, 2025, the arrest of Josue G. Corea, age 37, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Josue G. Corea was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, fourth-degree Resisting Arrest by Flight, and fourth-degree Possession of a Weapon.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, an assault was reported in an apartment building on Day Avenue in Fairview, New Jersey, at approximately 10:10 a.m., on January 21st, 2025. Officers from the Fairview Police Department responded, and upon arriving they found a 49-year old female victim with a large laceration on her head. The suspect had fled from the scene prior to the officers arriving. The victim was transported to the Hackensack University Medical Center to be treated for her injuries. A joint investigation was launched by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Fairview Police Department.
The investigation revealed that Josue G. Corea, a resident in the same building as the victim, approached her near the apartment’s main staircase, and struck her over the head with a machete. Allegedly, several more attempts were made to strike the victim multiple times before Josue G. Corea fled at approximately 10:45 a.m.. Josue G. Corea was located on River Road in Edgewater, New Jersey, where he was subsequently apprehended by officers of the Cliffside Park Police Department.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Josue G. Corea are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
