Bergen County Prosecutors have announced the arrest of 41 year old [b]KARIM R. ALI[/b] of 300 Avalon Drive, Wood-Ridge, New Jersey (DOB:: 11/27/1974) on charges of Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest came about as the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, under the direction of Deputy Chief Robert ANZILOTTI and the Wood-Ridge Police Department, under the direction of Chief Paul GOSCINSKI.
On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and advised that a 14 month old male child was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center. The child had sustained blunt force trauma to his abdominal area. An investigation was initiated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit and the Wood-Ridge Police Department. Based on the investigation and interviews, on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, Karim R. ALI was arrested and charged with one (1) count of Aggravated Assault and one (1) count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The Honorable MARGARET M. FOTI, J.S.C., of Bergen County Superior Court set Mr. ALI’S bail at $200,000.00 with no 10 percent option. Karim R. ALI is to have no contact with the victim and must surrender his passport as conditions of bail. ALI was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. He is scheduled to make his first appearance on July 1, 2016 at 1:30 PM in Central Judicial Processing Court.
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Grewal states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
