On November 25th, 2025, the arrest of Luis Marquez, age 41, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Luis Marquez was charged with second-degree Murder. The arrest and charges against Luis Marquez were a result of an investigation handled by the New York Police Department.
According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, for several years Luis Marquez and the victim, 47-year-old Carmen Lopez, dated on and off. During the evening of November 9th, 2025, Luis Marquez was stalking the victim while she was out with friends at a club. Carmen Lopez and Luis Marquez briefly engaged in conversation before dispersing, the defendant then allegedly going to the victim’s apartment building in Harlem, New York. Luis Marquez allegedly waited in the apartment building’s stairwell for approximately two hours for Carmen Lopez to return home. She arrived at her apartment at approximately 4:00 a.m. on November 10th, 2025. When Carmen Lopez exited from the elevator, allegedly Luis Marquez pinned her to the ground and stabbed her at least 20 times in the throat, chest, and stomach. Approximately fifteen minutes after the defendant returned to his apartment building, Carmen Lopez’ body was found and local police were called. Law enforcement were able to locate and arrest Luis Marquez on November 11th, 2025.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Luis Marquez are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
