On January 23rd, 2026, the arrest of Jhamir E. Brown, age 29, and Darial P. Hunt, age 24, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Jhamir E. Brown was charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Aggravated Assault, second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, third-degree Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and fourth-degree Being a Certain Persons not to Possess a Weapon. Darial P. Hunt was charged with fourth-degree Possession of Hollow-Nose Ammunition. The arrest and charges against Jhamir E. Brown and Darial P. Hunt was a result of an investigation handled by the Elmwood Park Police Department.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 11:22 p.m. on December 17th, 2025, a shooting was responded to on Donner Avenue by the Elmwood Park Police Department. Responding officers located the victim, a 27-year-old male, suffering from wounds originating from gunfire. The victim was transported by EMS to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries and remained in stable condition. The Elmwood Park Police Department began a joint investigation with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit that led to the identification of Jhamir E. Brown. The defendant was alleged to have been responsible for the Donner Avenue shooting. While officers were attempting to locate Jhamir E. Brown it was discovered that Darial P. Hunt of Paterson, New Jersey, was in possession of 9mm hollow-nose bullets and was subsequently arrested and charged.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jhamir E. Brown and Darial P. Hunt are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
