On June 18th, 2025, the arrest of Miguel Jiraud, age 30, was announced by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr.. Miguel Jiraud was charged with first and second-degree Attempted Murder, first-degree Assault, and first-degree Robbery. The arrest and charges against Miguel Jiraud were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Detective Anthony Ippolito of the 25th Precinct Detective Squad, Detective Charles Freitag of Manhattan North Homicide, and the NYPD Harbor Scuba Team

According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 16th, 2025, the victim was en route to her residence heading home from work from her job at a museum in Harlem, New York. While heading home on an e-scooter Miguel Jiraud allegedly attacked her unprovoked on the footbridge leading to Randall’s Island from Manhattan, New York. During the physical altercation the defendant then allegedly stole the victim’s bike in order to flee from the scene. After Miguel Jiraud arrived at the southern end of Ward’s Island he then tossed the e-scooter into the Harlem River. The next day at approximately 5:00 a.m. Miguel Jiraud called 911 and reported the victim at the scene, claiming that he discovered her unresponsive body while on an early morning walk. First responders located the victim on the riverbank still unresponsive, with both her shoes and sweatshirt removed. She was transported to the Elmhurst Hospital for treatment for several skull fractures, a puncture wound on her temple, numerous abrasions across her body, and brain hemorrhaging that required multiple surgeries. During the surgeries internal swelling required a portion of her skull and brain to be removed, leaving her cognitively impaired.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Miguel Jiraud are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
