Asif Qureshi of Bellerose, New York, Indicted for the Murder of his Estranged Wife

On January 8th, 2026, the arrest of Asif Qureshi, age 53, was announced by Nassau County District Attorney Melinda Katz. Asif Qureshi was charged with two counts of first-degree Burglary as a B violent felony, and second-degree Murder as an A-I felony. The arrest and charges against Asif Qureshi were a result of an investigation handled by the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office

According to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 7:00 a.m. on October 17th, 2025, 46-year-old victim Aleena Asif’s 18-year-old daughter left their house to attend college classes. Shortly after at approximately 7:53 a.m. the victim left the house with her 14-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter to drop them off at school. After the house was unoccupied Asif Qureshi, the victim’s estranged husband, allegedly dressed in a dark hooded sweater, a baseball cap, black gloves, a mask, and holding a red and white tote bag, got onto the property and entered by unlocking the front door. At approximately 8:00 a.m. Aleena Asif returned home with her 7-year-old daughter while Asif Qureshi was allegedly hiding inside the house, before she left the house again to walk her daughter to school at 8:50 a.m.. Aleena Asif returned home at 9:00 a.m. while the defendant was allegedly still in the building. 


The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Asif Qureshi are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
