On June 3rd, 2026, the arrest of Jose Bencosme, age 22, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Jose Bencosme was charged with two counts of second-degree Assault, two counts of second-degree Harassment, and two counts of third-degree Assault. The arrest and charges against Jose Bencosme were a result of an investigation handled by New York Police Department 46th Precinct Officer Pamela Sosa.
According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on April 9th, 2026, an emergency call was made for Jose Bencosme’s residence located at 1889 Sedgwick Avenue. FDNY EMS Technicians Felix Mezquita Jr. and Ali Issa were responding to the call when the defendant allegedly grappled with Felix Mezquita Jr. and punched him in the face. This caused Felix Mezquita Jr. to hit his head against the wall, however when Ali Issa attempted to help him Jose Bencosme allegedly punched him in the face several times. Felix Mezquita Jr. and Ali Issa were both transported to St. Barnabas Hospital to be treated for severe injuries. Felix Mezquita Jr. suffered a head laceration that required five staples and Ali Issa suffered bruising and swelling to his face.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Jose Bencosme are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
