On May 22nd, 2026, the arrest of Mauricio Neyra, age 21, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Mauricio Neyra was charged with first-degree Vehicular Manslaughter, two counts of second-degree Vehicular Manslaughter, two counts of second-degree Manslaughter, two counts of second-degree Assault, Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Driving, Driving While Intoxicated, and Driving While Ability Impaired. The arrest and charges against Mauricio Neyra were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Police Officer Brian Kehoe of the Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, on August 11th, 2025, Mauricio Neyra was driving a black 2019 Mercedes Benz sedan in the area of the Bronx River Parkway and East 223 Street. At approximately 1:00 a.m. the defendant struck 19-year-old Manuel Amarante Penalo and 21-year-old Enrique Martinez, both of whom were riding on mopeds on the Bronx River Parkway. The crash data recorder of the defendant’s vehicle revealed that just before the collision he was traveling at 100 miles per hour, which was double the posted speed limit of 50 miles per hour. A blood test was also performed from a blood draw from Mauricio Neyra that uncovered him having a blood alcohol content of .08% later in the morning after the crash.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Mauricio Neyra are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
