On July 20th, 2025, the arrest of Cagla Nemutlu, age 22, was announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Cagla Nemutlu was charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The arrest and charges against Cagla Nemutlu were a result of an investigation launched by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit- Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River Township Police Department, Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 11:25 p.m. on July 19th, 2025, local police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash involving pedestrians in the area of Winteringham Village. Responding personnel located an injured 60-year old male victim who was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in critical condition. Detectives were able to identify Cagla Nemutlu as the individual responsible for the hit-and-run, as she was exiting a parking space she struck two men at a high speed before driving off without attempting to help the victims or call emergency services to report the incident. Cagla Nemutlu was located and arrested in the Winteringham Village complex without incident.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Cagla Nemutlu are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
