On March 23rd, 2026, the arrest of Jermin Fordyce, age 36, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Jermin Fordyce was charged with first-degree Home Invasion Burglary N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2.1(1), first-degree Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/2C:14-2a(3), and second-degree Aggravated Assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1). The arrest and charges against Jermin Fordyce were a result of an investigation handled by the Hackensack Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 3:40 a.m. on March 21st, 2026, a home invasion burglary was responded to by officers from the Hackensack Police Department. Responding officers arrived at the residence to discover Jermin Fordyce subdued and held in the bathroom by one of the residents. The defendant was observed to have sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment following him being taken into custody. Detectives determined that Jermin Fordyce allegedly had entered the residence through a bathroom window. After entering the building the defendant entered the victim’s room while she was asleep and tried to remove her pants and strangle her during a sexual assault attempt. The altercation ended up waking up other residents which led to the physical struggle that ended up with Jermin Fordyce being captured and held in the bathroom.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Jermin Fordyce are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
