On April 20th, 2026, the arrest of Juan Rivas, age 45, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Juan Rivas was charged with first-degree Manslaughter, first-degree Assault, second-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Murder, two counts of second-degree Assault, third-degree Assault, fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The arrest and charges against Juan Rivas were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD 44th Precinct Detectives Joseph Graziadio and Corey Simpson, Patrick Curran of Bronx Homicide, and NYPD Police Officers Francisco Ferreira and Mathew Kelly of the NYPD 44th Precinct.
According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, at approximately 6:30 a.m. on February 28th, 2026, 42-year-old Yesenia Hall was heard arguing with Juan Rivas by her children inside of her apartment in a building at 956 Sherman Avenue. Following the argument the victim’s children heard her screaming, and when they ran to check on her they discovered her severely bleeding and Juan Rivas standing over her with a knife. The 16-year-old son attempted to intervene to protect Yesenia Hall from being hurt any further by the defendant, however this ended up with Juan Rivas allegedly stabbing both the son and Yesenia Hall several times. Yesenia Hall and her son were transported to NYC Health+Hospital Lincoln where Yesenia Hall was pronounced dead and the son was hospitalized for a month.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Juan Rivas are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
