On May 30th, 2025, the arrest of Karen A. McEvoy, age 57, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Karen A. McEvoy was charged with third-degree theft by deception, third-degree forgery, and third-degree impersonation. The arrest and charges against Karen A. McEvoy were a result of an investigation launched by Chief Matthew Finck of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Chief Andrew McGurr of the Teaneck Police Department.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, in February 2025, an alleged case of theft through a non-profit organization in Bergen county came to the attention of the Teaneck Police Department. Authorities contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit in order to launch an investigation into the alleged theft. Through the investigation law enforcement alleges that Karen A. McEvoy assumed the identity of another organization member and forged said member’s signature to write unauthorized checks from the non-profit organization’s bank account to transfer money into her personal bank account. It is estimated that Karen A. McEvoy accumulated around $36,000 from the fraudulent transactions.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Karen A. McEvoy are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
