Justin Cerciello was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Endangering The Welfare of a Child. The investigation into the case was led by the Bergen County Prosecutors office and the New Milford Police Department.

On January 12, 2020, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency, formally DYFS, agency notified the Bergen County Prosecutors Office about a three-month-old infant that was brought into Holy Name Hospital for excessive bleeding from the eyes and blood in the infant’s salvia.

A medical evaluation discovered that the infant also had bleeding on the brain and various other bruises. The infant was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where it was revealed that the infant suffered multiple rib fractures in different stages of healing. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the New Milford Police Department concluded that the infant’s injuries were caused by Justin Cerciello, while the infant was in his care.

On January 15, 2020, Justin Cerciello was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with one count each of Aggravated Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)1, a 2nd degree crime; and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2), a 2nd degree crime.

Justin Cerciello was transported to Bergen County Jail to await his detention hearing in Hackensack, NJ on January 21, 2020. The charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is under the supervision of Chief Robert Anzilotti. The New Milford Police Department is under the supervision of Chief Brian Clancy. The prosecution into the case will be led by Mark Musella.
