Story by Ethan

On September 10th, 2025, the arrest of Stephanie Castillo, age 36, was announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. Stephanie Castillo was charged with first-degree Murder, four counts of second-degree Murder, four counts of first-degree Manslaughter and two counts of second-degree Manslaughter. The arrest and charges against Stephanie Castillo were a result of an investigation handled by NYPD Detective Brianna Constantino and her colleagues of the NYPD Bronx Homicide Task Force, Linda Doyle of the NYPD Forensic Investigations Division, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Forensic Biology Department, and Special Agent Dianna Oglio of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

According to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, the corpse of an infant was found by the building superintendent of 1460 College Avenue in Claremont, New York, in the alleyway next to the building. A second deceased infant’s body was found inside of a black garbage bag by first responders after the initial body discovery was reported. The Chief Medical Inspector’s Office determined that both were full-term newborn babies and were born alive. It was noted that the cause of death for both infants was blunt force trauma to the head, in addition to the first victim also having torso injuries. Detectives pinpointed Stephanie Castillo as a candidate suspect with forensic evidence, in conjunction with the fact that she had resided in an apartment on the fourth floor in the 1460 College Avenue building during the time of the incident.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office stated that the charges against Stephanie Castillo are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
