Kelisen O. Brewley was arrested and charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault. The investigation into the case was led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department.

On January 26, 2020, the Hackensack Police Department received a 911 call informing them of a stabbing that took place at 240 Anderson street. When Hackensack officers arrived, they found Vanden L. Carter lying on the floor of the apartment with multiple stab wounds to his torso.

The victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Shortly after the incident, the Hackensack Police Department were notified of another victim who sustained similar injuries, Kelisen O. Brewley.

Brewley was transported to Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ, where he was treated. As a result of the investigation, it was discovered that Vanden L. Carter and Kelisen O. Brewley were acquaintances who were together in the apartment when the two engaged in an altercation. During the altercation, a third person attempted to intervene and was also assaulted by Brewley.

Kelisen O. Brewley was arrested on January 27, 2020 in Teaneck, NJ and charged with one count each of Manslaughter, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-4b, a 2nd degree crime; and Aggravated Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(3), a 4th degree crime. Brewley was transported to Bergen County Jail to await his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

The charges are accusations and the defendant will remain innocent until proven guilty. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is under the supervision of Chief Robert Anzilotti. The Hackensack Police Department is under the supervision of Officer in charge Captain Peter Buscigilio. The prosecution into the case will be led by Mark Musella.
