Andrew Gajewski of Manchester, New Jersey, Indicted for Causing Severe Damages During Motor Vehicle Crash and Leaving the Scene

On May 19th, 2026, the arrest of Andrew Gajewski, age 30, was announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Andrew Gajewski was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, three counts of Assault by Auto, Resisting Arrest, and Injuring an Animal Used by a Law Enforcement Agency. The arrest and charges against Andrew Gajewski were a result of an investigation handled by Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 18th, 2026, a motor vehicle crash with multiple injuries was reported on Route 37 in the area of Batchelor Street. Responding officers from the Toms River Township Police Department arrived on the scene to discover a 2022 Ford F-150 and a 2021 GMC Acadia with damage aligning with a head-on collision. Andrew Gajewski was identified to be the driver of the Ford, however he had fled from the crash site on foot. The driver of the GMC was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, to receive treatment for their injuries and currently remain in stable condition. A passenger of the Ford and a passenger of the GMC were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey, with less severe injuries that were treated before both were released. Andrew Gajewski was located in a wooded area near the scene of the crash. The defendant sustained injuries from both the crash and resisting arrest after additionally assaulting a Toms River Police Department K-9. Andrew Gajewski was taken to Community Medical Center after his apprehension to be treated for his injuries. Officers at the scene also reported that the defendant was exhibiting signs of intoxication which led to a court-authorized blood draw being performed on him. 

Following a joint investigation into the crash by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, it was revealed that Andrew Gajewski was operating his vehicle on the wrong side of the road right before the collision took place. In addition to driving in the wrong lane the defendant was also speeding and engaging in reckless driving.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Andrew Gajewski are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
