Story by Ethan

On August 29th, 2025, the arrest of John Olson, age 42, was announced by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. John Olson was charged with Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material and Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. The arrest and charges against John Olson were a result of an investigation launched by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, and Point Pleasant Police Department

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation was launched in response to a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about tracked internet activity linked to uploading images of child pornography. An IP address was obtained that linked back to a Point Pleasant Borough residence that was used to identify John Olson as the individual responsible for uploading the sexually explicit images of minors. A court-ordered search warrant was carried out at John Olson’s residence and several electronic devices were seized. Allegedly John Olson had been using his personal devices to upload child sexual abuse material to other users on the social media application Kik. Detectives also discovered that John Olson had been using his residence as a foster home while hiding cameras in the bedrooms that children would stay in. A court-warranted search of John Olson’s electronic devices revealed numerous saved pictures of nude children on his phone, most likely taken by the hidden cameras in the bedrooms that detectives discovered previously.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against John Olson are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
