On May 22nd, 2025, the arrest of Patrick J. McArdle, age 24, was announced by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Patrick J. McArdle was charged with second-degree aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and issued several motor vehicle summonses. The arrest and charges against Patrick J. McArdle were a result of an investigation launched by Chief Matthew Finck of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Chief Joseph Rella of the Ridgefield Park Police Department.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 9:41 a.m. on May 21st, 2025 Ridgefield Park police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Bergen Turnpike in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Officers that responded to the scene reported that a Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Bergen Turnpike before crossing the double yellow line crossing onto the opposite side of the road and hit a Toyota Corolla head on. Both Patrick J. McArdle and the 84-year old woman driving the Toyota Corolla were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Fatal Accident Task Force, allege that Patrick J. McArdle’s decision to drive into oncoming traffic was intentional.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the charges against Patrick J. McArdle are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
